Velesia: Why would you get married to a member of the same sex if you haven't come to terms with your homosexuality? Seems kinda funny to me. 2nd: They haven't suffered? I got my ass beat by five guys and then pissed on just because they THOUGHT I was homosexual. I've known girls getting raped and then tortured and abused because they're lesbians, guys have actually been rendered sterile because of the abuse to their testicles by other guys when they found out they were gay, and people have DIED just because they are gay. And you say they don't suffer? But, with the bigots we have in our society, people that normally would accept them don't, because they fear that they won't be accepted either. Thanks, George W. Bush! Ronald Reagan! Pat Robertson! Whoa, whoa, whoa, ts. I'm not any longer, but I will admit I was. If (godforbid) my current relationship cops out (which is heterosexual, btw) I'd go back to being bi. As far as my own relationship goes I don't find anyone attractive except Tymo. To be entirely honest. And yes, gays and lesbians have suffered. They have been through numerous kinds of prejudice and evil on that account - frankly I would f*cking know. You got beat up and pissed on I'm sorry. If you have names and photos fax them to me, I'll kill them, but that's not the point. I can come pretty damn close to understanding those girls you describe, if you know what I mean, but things haven't gotten as bad as they could be. That's all I'm saying. I'm sorry if I offended you.

The lesbians who are raped, tortured, and abused happen, even in the area I live in, hell, almost happened to two lesbian coworkers.

Yes, but thankfully you were there to step in. The point I was trying to make is that it could be worse. The thing about gay and lesbian "punishments" and harrassment etc. is that people are ashamed of it. They're ashamed of being gay, or of knowing gay people or, that they even exist, ergo things are less media driven. Hopefully things wont get as bad as,say, the Till case from the fifties. Discrimination, while often direct on a personal level, is kept generally under wraps when it comes to widespread media and the actual exploitation of gays etc. That's changing - slowly - as people come to fully realize the %10 of people world-wide who are gay, lesbian, trans or bisexual.

Velesia, you didn't offend me. I was arguing. Sorry if I offended you.
I'd just like to see them treated a little better. But, I figure there should be a constitutional amendment soon banning gay marriage. Then there will be one that repeals that amendment based on contradicting the constitution in itself. But, whatever.

Vel, I do what I do to make this place better for my children to grow up in. Laws don't do that, in fact, laws about civil rights won't mean much unless people accept those who the law is trying to protect.
ThoughtShift, you're Messiah, aren't you? I recognize how you act.

Your apology is accepted, TS, though even you must admit you seemed a bit heated.
And for the governmental system protecting people's rights, legislation can help - if you get the right kind, through the right people, for the right amount of time. That's why it's hard, because (due to the checks and balances system) it's hard to get actual laws to pass, and to enforce those realistically. Besides, if they get an amendment versing gay marriage I'm writing my senators and house rep, and they won't like getting those letters.

The amendment won't pass because it is restricting the people's rights. Unfortunately, unless you have more people writing their letters who are at legal voting age, it might not do much.

Oh ho... witness the wrath of Vel and say that again. But you're right If your wrath is anything like Ryo's then I have already witnessed it when char999 was around. Unfortunately, I am. A lot more good could happen if the politicians actually go out, and meet some of the people that they claim to represent.

True. Original and motivated (but not angry) letters get the most attention. Especially if they're written well. Something to remember is that no one knows how old you are in a letter unless you tell them.

Well, hopefully they won't check your name on records, and see if you're the voting age. *shrugs* But I don't see that happening, and if that amendment does happen, I'd be sending a letter myself. I think that we should take care of corruption within our government first.

Pft! If the amendment doesn't get tabled when it's brought to congress I'll be buying a plane ticket to D.C. (oh my homeland! I miss thee so! )
