Without evil, there is no good. Without good, there are no monkeys. Sorry that just popped in my head.

No. Without evil it would be difficult to distinguish good from evil. However, two events which are "good" and "evil", respectively, are independent of one another. Helping a blind man does not entail harming a cripple. Without conflict or evil, there would be no resolution. If everyone was good then nothing would happen. There'd be no cause, no change, no balance. There'd be no guilt because even the smallest evil would be gone, there'd be no conscious becuase there'd be no need for one, there'd be no personality because if one has no dislikes, hates, greed, or the like, we'd all be the same, face-less person. Without any conflict, there'd be no will to do anything, we might as well just sit and die. If all there is is nothing, then good becomes mere clockwork, no special meaning. If evil becomes nothing, good becomes nothing. And helping a blind man can sometimes hurt a cripple, there is always a possibility. [Insert Christmas Music]

And so?
What you describe is the human experience, the human condition. I quiet agree that through suffering we become stronger and surpass what we once were, but the question is: why would God create such a world? If God is all powerful, why would he not simply impart humans with wisdom from the beginning? If God is all knowing, and therefore already knows exactly what will come of all this, then for what reason could he possibly have to test humanity? Why force good people through hoops and jade so many into bad people? That is, what is God's prerogative at all? More to the point, what makes you say that any of this is a god's intention at all, and not say, the chance circumstance of the universe we live in?
That is a bottomless hole in the logic of all theology, a hole that no evidence can fill.
EDIT: Hey Lita. I hope you realize that rappers are well armed.

Real name on here is Cyrus, this is just a phase for me because Bob Dole is bored. Oh and Ellis I really like that argument. I have said things like that before but that is much better then what I have said. I will be quoting you on that now.

*Glomped* ^______________^ Nice to see you again. And so? What you describe is the human experience, the human condition. That is a bottomless hole in the logic of all theology, a hole that no evidence can fill. EDIT: Hey Lita. I hope you realize that rappers are well armed. Well, if we had all the logic from the beginning, what point is there in living? We'd might as well be doing nothing, having known everything there is to know, we'd take no happiness in doing hardwork for someone's better because we'd already know that everything for that person is good. We'd never need to work together. (And yeah, this is, more or less, what you have stated also.) And on what God stands on this and all he does, is an inanswerable question, as you stated. It goes on numerous variables, religious backrounds, and beliefs, and on whether you believe in God or not. [Insert Christmas Music]

EDIT: I'd like to extend more pleasantries, Lita, but I'm currently locked in a battle to the death with Crazy I'm going to invert your argument, as you seem to have your conclusion before your thesis, if you don't mind. And that is what destroys any religious although. An argument with an unknowable set of rules is no argument at all. "True by definition", is tautology, it's logically void. As you say, the concept of God is a highly variable one, depending greatly on culture, society, historical and economic background, personal preference and still other factors. Religious dogma holds that God creates man, yet it seems plain to me that man creates gods. Man exists first, and then constructs society, virtue, vice and God around him. Well, if we had all the logic from the beginning, what point is there in living? We'd might as well be doing nothing, having known everything there is to know, we'd take no happiness in doing hard work for someone's better because we'd already know that everything for that person is good. We'd never need to work together. (And yeah, this is, more or less, what you have stated also.) This assumes that right and wrong exist before man to be created. Once again, religion has it back wards. Humans suffer and choose to find value where the once was none -even if it is a simply psychological reaction to keep the individual going. Yes, we endure the bad to know the good, but God is not need to make this reality viable.
