Get ready... Get set... GO! *NM goes into lecture mode.* Retal, you do know that close range Beam weapons aren't like the long range ones? In fact, they are just heated particles surrounded by an I-Field. Do you know what happens when a solid object directly blocks the Beam? It sinks into the Beam a little. However, the Beam's own energy within the Beam will repel the attack, subsequently forcing both units off balance before there is significant damage to either weapon. There are your "glancing blows". In fact, the only close range weapon that can touch one of those Beams is another close range Beam weapon, as the I-Fields work against each other. Where did you get that from?
