Mobile Suit Gundam: Spectre of the Past

Two hundred years ago a great battle was fought in space. Both sides, the earth and colonies, used new machines called mobile suits. In the end a new cataclysmic weapon wiped out both sides. The weapon canceled out all nuclear activity, causing all nuclear powered ships and weapons to be destroyed from overloads in reactors. The mobile suits survived thanks to a hurriedly assembled device, called an N-Jammer Cancellor. Despite the fact that this had been developed both sides had wiped out military bases that contained this data, before wiping out each other. The mobile suits were not destroyed, being burried on Earth and the moon, as well as the asteroids.

Now, in the year Space Era 317 the sides of the Earth Sphere and the Union of Colonies have regained their old ships. The now battery powered armies have begun preparation to restart the war. A startling surprise made by the Colonies have caused a change in the war. They have dug up a large amount of mobile suits, still powered by their reactors. Now both sides have mined for MS, and this is agreed upon to be a key part in the upcoming war.

This is the start of Mobile Suit Gundam: Spectre of the Past!

Here are some rules to keep everyone in check.

Rule #1: Play fair. This means not killing other player’s character without permission, not trying to gain an unfair advantage over the other players, etc. Your character can backstab and be an unfair bastard all you want, but each player should be on an even footing. The RPG’s character creation rules are intended to be flexible and not impose a lot of restrictions – don’t abuse this and try to make your character more powerful than anyone else’s.

Rule #2: I’m not setting any requirements for posting, but if you aren’t able to post for awhile, lack the motivation or whatever, please don’t leave people hanging. Other people may be ready and waiting to get their characters moving, and if they’re waiting on your character’s decision for weeks real-time…

Rule #3: Before you can introduce a major character or new mecha, you need to post the character or mecha’s description in the OOC thread and receive approval. Please, don’t post IC before getting approval.

Give us some idea what your character looks like; anything that wasn’t conveyed by the above info should be covered here. How do they dress? Got a distinctive scar? Walk with a limp? Eyepatch?

History:
This covers what’s happened to your character prior to the events of the RPG. Go into as much or as little detail as you want; everyone else doesn’t need to know your character’s dark secrets right away! Some things you might want to cover: How was your character raised? Are their parents alive, or did they die in a mysterious tragedy ? Where did they learn to fight/cook/barter/steal/whatever? How’d they get possession of that giant robot?

Skills:

Alright, so that covers your character’s appearance and past; next, your character will need a list of skills. Skills in this RPG are ranked according to 5 levels – from lowest to highest, they are Low, Medium, High, Exceptional and Legendary. Your character’s skills represent what they’re good at – your character may be average in a number of areas, but only their defined skills are notably above average. (Note that the ‘Low’ skill level is still better than average) Your character’s skills may also improve over time, at GM discretion (chances are that characters who are active in the RPG will get to improve a skill or two to a higher level every once in awhile).

Skills can be defined or broad categories, but the level of effectiveness will vary. A character skilled at ‘Games’ will probably be a decent player of card games, darts, chess, etcetera, but he/she will not be as talented at card games as a character skilled at ‘Card Games’. Similarly, a ‘skill’ can be more of a trait than a defined ability; a character might simply be ‘Quick Thinking’ and not be specialized or skilled at any particular form or application of quick thinking.

The skills you choose also determine, to some extent, your character’s related abilities. If your character’s skills are all mental in nature and require a high intelligence level to use as well as your character uses them, then your character has above average intelligence. If your character’s best skill is swordfighting, then it’s fairly likely that your character is in good physical shape, and so on. Note that not all skills are equal in this respect – ‘Swordfighting’ does probably indicate that your character is strong, but he/she might be even stronger if they simply chose ‘Strong’. If your character’s description talks about how strong, witty and intelligent they are, but the character’s skills don’t seem to reflect it, you may want to rethink things.

When your character is first created, they have six skills – three Low, two Medium and one High.

Assets:

In addition to their skills, characters get one ‘Asset’ at the time of their creation – this reflects some material item or noteworthy accomplishment the character has come to possess prior to the RPG. For example, your character might have a mobile suit, an item of lost technology, be the leader of a group of bandits or just be freakin’ rich. Be reasonable here – I reserve the right to suggest that you choose a different asset, as well as the right to have said asset break down or become otherwise unusable at a key moment.

Remember, your character can obviously have other stuff besides their asset (common gear, weaponry, etc) – the asset is just the big thing. Don’t worry about picking an extremely valuable/powerful asset, either – choose what fits your character.

Also a mobile suit is an asset. There are only a handful available and they can only be used by the military.

Multiple Characters:

If you have multiple characters that could be considered ‘main characters’ and are in the same group (ie; traveling together)… Maybe you shouldn’t, first – get another player’s character to come along instead, ideally. But if you have some great two(or more)-character team in mind, then each additional character has one less skill, starting with the highest ranked skill. Thus, if your main character’s best friend always accompanies him/her, that character would start with 2 Medium and 3 Low skills. Basically, you can’t form a group of only your characters and be very capable – if you want a team, team up with other players. Also, such characters do not receive an Asset to begin the game with.

In contrast, if you make a second or third character who isn’t actively aiding your first character, more power to you – the more characters in the world, the better. Such characters receive full starting skill points and an Asset; however, if I see this being abused it will be changed.

Mobile Suits are humaniod machines, once used for construction long ago but later war. Now after their rediscovery they are used only for war. All use a complex OS. This is designated as GUNDAM.

On mobile armors.

Mobile armors are the mainstay force for both armies aside from battleships. These could be considered advanced space fighters in a sense. They, like ships and other military weapons, are battery powered. This means that along with refueling they will have to recharge after a while.
