I heard Germany is pissed as all hell at the way they refer to Ratzinger. Yeah, he was a Hitler youth, but I think too many people are patronizing him. I think they should give him a chance before they start all this sarcasm.

I think they should give him a chance before they start all this sarcasm. It was mandatory, and he did go AWOL before the war ended. I don't blaim him. The entire reference I'm more going by is his appearance.

True. But in all actuality, I do forsee someone assassinating him. I mean, he's got a bad rap now with the media, and choosing the name Benedict XVI? Very few people are known by their first name in history, and Napoleon and Benedict are two of the more famous ones. Choosing the name Benedict is like saying, "Someone shoot me."

Are you refering to Benedict Arnold, Libra? If so, only an unimaginibly tiny percent of the American popluation would be crazy enough to kill someone over that, let alone kill the totally unrelated Pope. I really can't see what you're on about.

Libra all Popes are known by their first name except the ones who choose two. Some however should keep their original name like Hildebrand who later became Gregory VII. Perhaps if he had kept his original name when he fought the Holy Roman Emperor he wouldn't have gotten owned.
Personally I think he's just what Europe needs. Just like Palpatine dewussified the Empire, Benedict will dewussify the Europeans. Admit it Europe is really starting to suck! I'm hoping for a call to Crusade.

More likely than anything else, due to XVI's rather conservative stance on most issues, he'll keep the Catholic Church ideologically pure, but lagging behind the significantly more progressive Europe in cultural terms. Thus, I doubt he'll change very much in Europe.

Don't be to sure about that Ellis, my opinion is he is part of a significant shift to the right in Europe. The fact is traditionalism there is starting to make head way with immigration policy being the catalyst. My theory is he's part of this wider shift, due to his stance against reletivism, which many Europeans actually support, with their eye fixed squarely on Islam.

Completely incorrect use of the word "patronizing," minus ten points.

I really can't see what you're on about. Yes, that's who I'm talking about, and no, I don't think it would be an American that would kill him over a name like that... Bear in mind that the one Turkish guy wanted to kill the last pope for something that was probably a lot worse of the reason.

I don't know. Typed that about 5 minutes after waking up. Don't expect anything like that to make sense.
