Seriously, the guy didn't have to go out of his way to mock the EU creators, who have not only kept the SW storyline fresh during Lucas's long long long sabbatical from SW, but brought Lucas a nice chunk of pocket change. Personally I think he acted like a jack ass.

Why should Lucas have to conform around someone elses vision when Lucas invented the whole Star Wars Universe himself?
The EU writers should have taken his advice and just avoided the whole pre-quel.

Raz does have a point. It is Lucas's universe, and the EU writers are allowed to play in it but are not the final authority.
Besides, Lucas loved Dark Empire. Hell, the whole landing the Invisible Hand on Coruscant may have been an homage to the scene where Lando and Luke had to land the Star Destroyer. Naming the V-wing a V-wing might just be another homage.
Oh, and in my opinion, about 80% of the EU is utter trash anyway. Fuck NJO. Fuck it up the ass until it bleeds.

Gojira and Raz have you considered that Lucas has been making huge ass paychecks off of that. The way I see it if he didn't like the storyline he shouldn't have approved them rather than taking the money and then making the authors look like idiots.

Lucas only looks at the comics, really. He'll thumb through a book, but he usually tells the author what NOT to do to begin with. But the authors do it anyway.
Either way, Lucas doesn't have to conform to anyone. It's HIS universe. He lets other people dabble into it, but he still has the final word. What part of that do you not get?

I'll add in that when making a movie aimed for the general public, I highly doubt Lucas was taking the EU into consideration. Star Wars is "aimed" at kids, I don't think too many kids have read NJO or any of the other EU's, so why should Lucas take them into consideration when making HIS films.
It just doesn't make any sense for the EU authors to be pissed about this shit, they should have seen it coming in the first place. They can't honestly believe George Lucas has read every single Star Wars novel ever, do they or that he is going to make his movie around those books?

Besides, Triyun, you do realize that the authors of the EU are capitalizing off an idea that isn't their own? Crap, you complain about Lucas making money off of them, but what about all of the authors who are catching a free ride on the Star Wars name? People probably wouldn't read any of that crap if it didn't have STAR WARS written on it.
