www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/11/11/arafat.main/index.htmlIt's unfortunate to hear. I'm not a huge Arafat fan, but it's sad that the liberator of the Palestinians never got to see Palestine as its own state. The entire country is in a state of mourning, and I don't blame them. I plan on watching the Cairo funeral on TV whenever it's on.

Aries has poked fun at Arafat for years, and disliked him for nearly as long...
...Still, Aries doesn't wish death on anybody, and Aries'll really miss old Toady Arafat. Even if Aries didn't like the man, and even if he never did a good thing for his cause, Aries still respects that cause. Maybe the Palestinians will get their state now...that'd be cool...
Oh, Cyg...the funeral is technically going to be on like CNN and MSNBC at four AM your time...

Wouldn't it have been easier to just move my thread from general, to here? And why was my thread deleted then?

Not really important, but mine was made last not. Would like to know who deleted it, and why though. For now lets back on topic.

I didn't delete it, but this one was probably already here. In that case, it probably would have been easier to simple delete your thread than move it here and delete mine. Now, back on topic.
I didn't bother to get up and watch the funeral at three or whatever, but I plan on catching some clips from off CNN.

Its probably for the worse honestly, Hamas and Islamic Jihad are very powerful and with the radicals in the GOP in the US and a hard line Israel Prime Minister, a moderate is not likely to arise on the Palestinians side, more than likely it will descend into anarchy.

Sorry to be nit-picky, but reactionary is the proper term to use. Radical is far left, reactionary is far right.
But you deffinately have a point. I wonder how long this international optimism is going to last.

Good riddance. Maybe there will be actual progress in the freedom movement then what this trash achieved. He was a billionaire from leeching money off his people while they starved. Rather than giving money to help the people, he gave money to Terrorists which has effectively only caused more trouble to the people.

So long as the Israeli Knessent remains as conservative as it is, the only "progress" we can expect to see is the further subjugation of the Palestinian people.
Guess what folks, Yasser Arafat had been trapped in his compound for the past four years and the violence only intensified (thanks in part to the apathy of a certain administration).

Terrorism isn't helping the Palestinian people one bit. Yasser Arafat was that first and foremost. A terrorist. If the terrorism wasn't there, things would be a hella easier to solve, but with both sides attacking each other constantyl, one starting the other retallitating in an endless stream, nothing can be done.

And the Israeli armed forces are, first and foremost, glorified terrorists. What they have done is by no means ethically elevated above Palestinian militant tactics.
Now, I'm not exactly pro-blowing-up-busses, what I'm saying is that we're oversimplifying the problem. If anyone wants a real shot at peace, the Israelis need to get their settlements out of the West Bank and keep them out.

If there's one thing that the Israeli army does not believe in, it's the saying, "The best offense is often a good defense." Their aggresive tactics are only making them look bad really bad. And Ellis, they're not "glorified terrorists". I've got friends (boys and girls) that are in/will go into the Israeli army. They're tired of the constant fighting, and really aren't that thrilled to be joining the military in the first place. And exactly how many Israelis do you hear of that kill innocents indiscriminately? I sure haven't heard many cases. Probably because I hear so much of: "Today a Palestinian terrorist killed *blank* people in a crowded cafe/market place/street corner/bus stop/school/*insert public place here*." I don't see Israelis walking into public places and killing indiscriminately. Their tactics aren't the best, but they are high above the levels of the psychos who strap bombs and various other sharp objects to their bodies and then detonate themselves in public places with the full intention of harming civilians. Make a statement my ass! Blow up a military outpost, not a Starbucks! And of course, the other Arab nations are doing ssssooooo much for their Palestinian friends. They've pretty much just given the terrorists equipment, funding, and moral support. Then they tell them, "Have fun with your new toys now, y'hear?" I don't hear about any of them sending in relief for those God-awful refugee camps...
