Oy. The way things are going in Africa, I don't think the population will last long. Between a raging aids epidemic and constant, brutal civil wars and genocidal campaigns, it probably won't be too long before most humans there are just wiped out.

Honestly, the UN should have had member nations pitch in for the security of refugee camps. If they don't, those refugees are easy targets for those who would want them dead. In other words, the UN is incompatent.

Africa has been the most ignored area of the world for a very long time, simply because Western leaders feel that whatever happens among the central African nations is of no concern to them. It is time for the UN to start doing its DAMNED JOB and STOP this SHIT.

Need I remind you the UN does not have any standing army. Perhaps if they had more troops to work with from their member nations they could do something, currently in this region though, UN forces are very thin due to relunctance from many national militaries to help.

Bingo.
This individualistic "Meine Land Uber Alles" is what's going to get us all killed.

And we're supposed to run to the UN for help in Iraq? The responsibility of millions at sake and an even more tenious political situation?
*rolls eyes*
The UN needs to be fixed...badly.

Aries, the issue people have is that there is a small population in our country (and larger in others) that think the UN should be have direct control over the actions of nations, which people disagree with. UN can ASK people to send troops, which they haven't seem to have done in this situation. However, they in no way have the right to command any nation to send troops or not.

The problem is the UN is overextending itself. It was origionally conceived to serve as neutral grounds for countries to talk. Now it seems to see itself as some sort of global police force, which isn't really feasible.

Unfortunately noted. But something else to consider is the history of the Congo itself. They've been emroiled in civil war for the past seven years, and you would not believe some of the atrocities I've heard and read of there. Just a point.

The UN should be disbanded.
Why? Why disband the United Nations? Because they are inept. They can't do anything at all, and if they can't order any country to send military units to guard refugee camps, then they should reorganize, or disband. You have all these slaughters, and massacres, and yet, the UN does nothing but condemn them, why? Because that is all they can do. The UN is weak, and powerless.
*spits on the UN*
