Several minutes later...
---------------
Panting, Alexia made it to the Talos, cradling her rifle in her arms. She ran into the airlock and quickly strapped herself into a drop seat behind the cockpit next to Olga. She looked at Jenn for a second, noticing Jenn's nipples poking at the fabric of her dress. "Why aren't you wearing a bra?" she asked.
"It's a long story," said Jenn as she checked her instruments. "Argus, get ready to go."
"Confirmed, Captain. We have a problem, however. The colony security force is checking all departing ships. Shall we go through the checkpoint?"
"There's no time," said Jenn through her teeth. "No. Just go straight through. Start patching through to the main ship." Jenn took a deep breath and lay her hand on the throttle. With a barely audible exhalation, she pushed the throttle forward to its physical stops.
The Talos shot forward, rapidly accelerating. It tore past the Daughtresses guarding the hangar exit and blew into open space, the MS following as closely as possible.

"Ensigns, our quarry's just shown itself. Move in and attack!" Lt. Godos ordered as his Gundam Airmaster turned around, transformed to fighter mode, and began pursuing the Talos[/i[].
The Gundam X Divider and the Gundam Leopard also joined the pursuit, but they were quickly falling behind. Lt. Godos looked back once as he sped after the Talos.

Just as Lt. Godos looked back, an bolt of beam energy ripped into the side of the trailing Leopard, severing the right arm at the elbow.
Dulkor grinned, Xiphos had activated flawlessly, and no one had tampered with it.
"Talos, come in. I'll try to keep the pursuit forces from causing too much of a problem. Just lead the way!" he called out as he flicked a beam katar to life and impaled the damaged Leopard's back mounted thruster pack. The X Divider pilot tried to take a shot, but the much more nimble Xiphos dodged it easily.

On board a nearby transport, a young woman watched the battle ensue.
So, the once infamous Black Knight of Khalla once again steps into battle. The young woman gave a slight smirk, thinking of memories long past before turning away and heading back to her quarters.

Crap, crap, crap, crap, CRAP!
Colony is now under seige, with gangsters on one end, pirates on the other, and the farkin' military thrown in for good measure. This is getting ugly too fast, and unless they escape, there will likely be nothing left of this colony... which brings us to the present situation.
Running from gunfire, and mobile suits left right and centre, most seem a little bit too preoccupied either scurrying for their lives or fighting in this warzone to bother with security. Convenient, since a certain secret, now not-so-secret, installation has now been broken into. It wasn't really so much because of the stealth, as much as the fact that with all the gunfire and weapons going off, something was bound to get hit, hence a nice, conveniently placed hole to enter.
Need to find cover... can't stay in here like this...
With the building lightly guarded, it was easy to get deeper into the installation without being noticed... that, plus with the lights flickering on and off, the darkness itself certainly helps to keep a low profile. The building jostled, and debris came falling down, causing small explosions in the vicinity.
"S***!"
Close call, as a giant beam came close to crushing its victim underneath. Not that he seems to care, for Aegis himself has more pressing matters to contend with. Namely what to do with the unconcious Kara in his arms.
"Seems like our lucky day, isn't it?" the hydrid mused, and continued through the dank hallways. Great... now where the hell am I? he thought, stumbling through the debris and junk. If I don't get us out of here, this place will be as good as gone...

Jenn nodded, though Dulkor couldn't see the affirmative gesture. "Head for the cap end of the colony, and try not to play with these guys too long. We won't be able to wait up for you."
Dulkor's voice sounded over the comm system, punctuated by the sound of his mobile suit's Minovsky heart. "Roger that, I'll follow you guys as I fight. Considering what I ran into before, I doubt they'll be any trouble."
Jenn stopped transmitting and watched as almost a dozen Daughtresses poured out of the colony nearby. They began firing, but the Talo's jamming systems had already begun to affect their aim. Without target locks, the pilots had to rely on visual targeting to hit the fast-moving Talos, not an easy feat at this distance.
Jenn did a barrel roll, flipping the cruiser around like it was a fighter, verniers firing to stablize its course. The ship continued towards the end of the colony, engines at full throttle.
-----------------------
In a dark room, somewhere near the colony, a single monitor flickers on. It displays several scrolling lines of text:
AI Circe...ONLINE AI Charon...STANDBY Reactors...INCREASING OUTPUT Establishing Argus Link... ... ... CONNECTED
Engines...WARMING UP Weapons...ON-LINE Life Support...ON-LINE Shielding...READY
Camo...STABLE Explosive Bolts...READY
AI Aeolus...ON-LINE Establishing Aeolus Link... ... ... ... CONNECTED
Deactivating Aeolus...COMPLETED Aeolus Link...DISCONNECTED
Scylla Systems...GREEN Launch Status...STANDBY
Smaller lights flicker on around the monitor, revealing more monitors in the room and several consoles and chairs. A light rumbling can be heard as an armored shield begins to retract.
----------------------------
Drake watched the battle outside the colony with much enthusiasm, his gaze constantly drifting to the fleeing Talos. He grinned at the large monitor screen, then picked up a phone nearby. "Get my ship ready to go...I think I'll go back to Terra. Oh, and tell my security force to stay out of this."
"Yes sir, Mr. Canon," said a pleasant female voice at the other end. "Shall we call off the security force in the experimental weapon hangar? It seems they saw an intruder on the monitors..."
"Yes, tell them to stand down. I want to see how this plays out."
"As you wish, Mr. Canon."

"Weird..." Aegis thought aloud. Even with all the fighting outside, you'd think there would be at least ONE security guard on duty to even NOTICE a couple of civilians running amok inside some expensive property. In fact, ever since he came across the installation, it almost seems as though he is being lead into the place. Of course, with all the carnage going on at the moment, Aegis was willing to take his chances. Better to be inside some shelter at the moment than be blown to bits.
Groping his way through the hallway, Aegis suddenly stumbled upon a large door blocking his path. Curious, Aegis placed his hand against the door, feeling the cold steel against his fingers. All of a sudden, the door suddenly came to life, and slowly creaked open to reveal the path on the otherside. What Aegis ended up finding was a huge hangar, a few vehicles and weapons strewn about, but nothing seemingly worth his time. Suspicious, Aegis cradled Kara in his arms, and walked inside the hangar to get a better look. Much like his initial observations, there was little to nothing worth driving, and anything else was probably long gone by now... save for one object.
"Mmm..." Kara moaned, but otherwise remained unconcious. Desperate, Aegis made his way towards the object in question, wishing to take a closer look at object itself. What he discovered was nothing less of astonishing.
An orbital frame.
"My... gosh..." he gasped.
From what he can tell, the orbital frame itself wasn't exactly too spectacular at the moment. Tall, lean, and curvaceous, exuding an air of speed and agility, yet seemingly not much in the way of weaponry. In fact, about the only thing worth noting was an energy sword strapped onto its back by an invisble field... and even THAT doesn't seem all that special.
"Like I have a choice..." Aegis mumbled, as he edged closer to the oversized cockpit located at the mech's crotch. Aegis nearly jumped, as the cockpit 'hatch' itself disappeared, revealing the controls within the mech. All this for his own taking, it seems... there has to be a catch.
Suddenly, more explosions rocked the building, as bulkheads and parts began crashing to the ground, breaking anything below its weight.
"Like I REALLY have a choice!" Aegis cried out, as he hopped into the orbital frame. Immediately, the cockpit cover reappeared over his head. With Kara on his lap, and his hands on the controls, he struggled to figure out how to activate this orbital frame. He's had plenty of practice with traditional mechs like mobile suits, variable fighters, and the like... but this will prove to be a somewhat new experience.

The Orbital Frame, despite not having as strong a Metatron heart as most military models, still lit up with lines crossing its surface. A dim light appeared in the cockpit as Metatron lines lit up until they bathed the cockpit in a soft blue-green glow. Outside the cockpit, bigger Metatron lines achieved the same glow, then began to pulse slowly.
"Good evening," announced a faintly female voice. "I am this orbital frame's battle computer, serial number Test-H3-M4. I have been designated Haede. This experimental orbital frame has been designated PoIT-X45-7264. You are not a registered pilot for this orbital frame. Please wait."
A brief silence filled the cockpit before the computer resumed speaking. "Please place your hands on the control pads."
Aegis slowly complied. Why won't this thing go? he wondered to himself. The orbital frame shuddered in response, straining against its restraint frame and throwing up a shower of sparks against the clamps.
Haede's voice chimed in. "Neural interface is ready. Synchronization rate acceptable. You are now registered. Disengaging docking clamps."
The restraint frame shuddered and began to move away from the orbital frame, which dropped slowly to the ground and began to hover a few meters above the floor. "Ready for flight," said Haede. "Would you like to give this frame a new name before commencement of flight?"
--------- OOC: Tag, draco and aegis. Can't move without the militia, draccie.

"Eh..." Aegis stumbled, making a few simple test waves of the arms, and astonished at how quick the controls responded to him. "Um... Haede, was it?"
"That is correct."
"Listen, I'd love to rename this frame here, but at the moment, we've got to get out of here before the colony gets destroyed," Aegis said with a tone of urgency in his voice. "So, if we can get this thing flying, all the more better."
"Understood," Haede replied. "Beginning flight sequence."
With that, PoIT-X45-7264 hovered higher into the air, the thrusters on its back and feet emanating power as the mech prepared for flight.
"Wait... one more thing before we really go," Aegis suddenly thought. "This frame is a test model, you say... quick status of the armaments and capabilities before I rush in head long. That, and... how to really fly this thing..."
|

|
Post by dragonclaw15 on Sept 7, 2004 17:00:22 GMT -5
"The controls are simple," said Haede. "Press the triangle button to fly up. Press the X button to fly down. Press the square button to fire primary weapon, and press the circle button to activate subweapon. Also, the L1 button may be pressed to defend against enemy attacks."
Aegis looked down at his hands. There were almost no buttons in the cockpit at all, and certainly none of the buttons Haede had mentioned. He frowned.
"I am sorry," said the battle computer. "My programmer put those commands in, probably as a joke. I do not understand the humor of it. This orbital frame is controlled through a limited neural uplink, which handles weapons aiming, target lock-on, and arm movements. The control pads track hand movement to control the orbital frame's bearing and movement. The left pad controls the direction of the frame, and the right pad controls up/down and left/right movement. The farther you move your hands on the pads, the faster the frame responds."
Aegis looked at the controls for a moment. They seemed pretty intuitive, but he could already tell that combat and flight at the same time would be difficult.
"Throttle is controlled by the right pedal," continued Haede. "Reverse movement is not possible due to limitations in the engine system. If one presses down the pedal, one feels a physical stop after some distance. If one presses the pedal past that stop, the engines are overloaded and one can boost. One may boost in any direction, even up and down. The left pedal is the charge pedal. When one presses this pedal down, the orbital frame draws more power into its offensive systems. However, one must be standing still to use this, and it leaves one vulnerable to attack. Also, the charge is only effective for one attack, then you must charge again for another charged attack.
"This orbital frame is currently equipped with one offensive and one defensive system. It has one power sword, which is a physical sword that becomes sheathed in an energy field when removed from its recharge plug. The field can be sustained for fifteen minutes before the sword must be returned to a recharge plug. The defensive system is an energy shield. It is activated via the neural uplink and is mounted on the left arm. It can only block a certain number of enemy attacks before it needs to be recharged. At that point, the shield will turn off and will recharge itself. Are you ready for flight? I detect a disturbance outside."
Haede brought up a small radar screen on the canopy, as well as an aiming reticle and a marker made up of several glowing squares that pointed toward the exit of the hangar, which was already beginning to open.
---------------- OOC: Full of in-jokes, this...if Aegis recalls, "Haede" was the name I came up with when I was talking about my "type random letters and put vowels between them" method for names...and of course everyone should catch the other reference.

OOC: Recognised the name all too well. ^^
IC: "Well... it's now or never," Aegis muttered, his fingers tapping gently on the orbital frame's controls.
Once again, the engines on its back began emanating power, as Aegis prepared this new orbital frame for flight. Power reaching its apex, the orbital frame curled itself slightly, as though preparing to sprint. With a sudden burst of energy, the orbital frame took off, flying straight towards the exit with incredible speed.

MH finally made it to the hanger in question. He readied his gun and burst in. Instead of an exotic, guarded ship, he found a garbage scow.
"What the hell! Dammit! This isn't the right hanger!"
Reaching for the radio built into his head, MH tried to figure out where his prize was. He had flipped through several stations, when he picked up a military frequency.
"The ships heading for the end of the colony. Intercept it immediately!"
The signal was pretty strong and had to be near the colony. "That has to be it," proclaimed MH.
He needed to get back to his ship fast. The last thing that he wanted was that ship destroyed or captured. An idea occured and MH rushed to the hanger airlock. The bypass was easy to break and the emergency release was quickly pressed. MH was sucked out into space as the sudden vacuum pulled him and everything not strapped down out.
Fortunately his ship was still parked there. No one noticed his attack on the colony MS. MH used his miniature thrusters to return to his ship. In a matter of minutes, he was back to the bridge and firing engines.
"If those military bastards had they're way, they'd destroy the ship. I'd better give them reasons not too."
A special command was keyed into the Crustacean's system. Various projectile and beam turrets rose from the ship's surface. It activated it's auto defense programs. Now MH wouldn't have to worry about his ship being defenseless.
The ship wasn't finished with the special operation. Armored plating slid out all over the bridge. The command seat, with MH in it, slid back into the Bridge's wall. The seat was moved to a cockpit like area inside the ship. MH quickly keyed in another special command and the Crustacean's biggest secret opened up.
The top half of the bridge removed itself from the ship. A mono-eye track opened up and two clawed arms swung out from underneath. The engines flared as the old, yet enhanced Mobile Armor shot out from it's berth. Quickly scanning the area arounf the colony, MH spotted a military cruiser pursuing some unseen ship. The Lobster, MH's custom Bigro, shot out in it's own pursuit.

OOC: Er, MH, if you were after Dulkor's ship it's still impounded. Jenn's ship is the one that's leaving.
IC:
Dulkor slammed his thrusters forward and impaled the X Divider's cockpit on one of his beam katars, grabbing the suit with his free hand before dashing towards the group of Daughtresses. He threw the damaged suit at the first one, causing them both to explode as the Divider's reactor finally went critical.
This drew the attention of a few of the mobile suits while the rest continued their barage at the Talos. He ignored the ones shooting at him, continuing after the nearest targets focused on the ship. Slicing the arms off one, firing through the head of another and slaming Xiphos's tail into a third, cripping an arm.
Of course, giving the MS shooting at the Talos a higher priority wasn't without consequences. A few shells slamed into Xiphos's armor, but luckily none of them did anything more than cosmetic damage before he returned fire.
Dulkor did a quick look at his scanners to see what was still around, the Talos was getting further away and with the confusing Dulkor had caused for the militia forces, it looked like it was in the clear.
He fired another shot at a nearby Daughtress for good measure, before taking off after the ship.

MH was gaining on the military vessel. They apparently didn't notice him. That was perfectly allright by his standards. "I'll just zip by, fend off those MS and take that ship and...and...."
MH's eyes kept darting to the cruiser. It carried (beautiful) large, powerful cannons. The engines were standard (awesome) military grade. Any pirate (like me) would want to get their hands on that kind of equipment.
It took much effort on MH's part to keep flying straight. His mind kept wandering back to all the high-tech goodies carried on the war vessel.
"I've got to stay focused. There must be something important on that other ship. Got to stay focused. Got to stay focused. Got to stay focused. Got to...stay...focused...Oh screw it!"
The Bigro took a sudden turn straight torwards the enemy ship. Beam blades burst from the center of the MA's claws. It sped torwards one of the more prominent turrets. With machine-like precision, it sliced through the base of the turret. The undamaged cannon floated away from the ship.
The vessel's crew was now alerted to MH's presence. As MH began to turn around for another pass, they began to open fire.
"CRAP! Been a while since I've been shot at!" The Lobster began to maneuver erratically to dodge the oncoming wave of anti-air fire. It fired off a volley of missles to try and destroy the AA turrets. Most missed, but a few hit their marks and the AA fire slackened.
"This is going to be a tough 'salvage'," muttered MH. With that he increased his acceleration to try for another pass.

Officer Alan McAvoy of the Colony Security Forces sighs, a tinge of nervousness clearly audible. Considering the chaos breaking out, it is understandable for the powers that be to deem guarding an impounded pirate vessel a minor priority, requiring the most bare-boned security detail possible. But...was it really necessary for them to choose ALAN MCAVOY of all people?! "SERIOUSLY..." Alan growls, crossing his arms, "They could have AT LEAST posted TWO people...but ONE?! What the hell am I supposed to do if the pirates come BACK?!!" Thanks to his near-endless grumbling, Officer McAvoy doesn't notice as two shadowy figures creep up behind him. "I mean...look at my gun! This thing's a freaking pea-shooter! What is THIS supposed to do against...!" "Uhm...excuse me..." "WHAT?!" Alan yells angrily, spinning around. WHACK!PK rubs his fist as Alan crumbles to teh floor, knocked out cold. "Somehow..." says Aaron, looking from the fallen officer to the ship, "I thought this would be a bit more...difficult..." "You're not the only one," Paul replies, "Come on, let's get Liz and get the hell OUT of here." The brothers scramble up to the main hatch and get another surprise: the door ISN'T LOCKED. "Okay..." PK remarks as he slowly enters the Talera, "These must be some of the worst cops in history..." "Indeed." "Okay, let's find your girlfriend. I'll check towards the hangar, you..." Paul begins to say, before suddenly being interrupted: "FINALLY!" a voice booms over the ship's loudspeakers, "It's about time! What took you guys so long?" "Liz? Are you all right?" asks Aaron. "I'm FINE. Come on, let's get out of here..." Suddenly, the main hatch seals shut behind the Matrix brothers. "Um...Liz..." says Paul taking a step back from the door, "What are you doing...?" "I'm starting up the ship. If you guys want to be useful, I suggest you either get up here to the bridge or man the guns. Don't go to the hangar, there's a huge hole in there. I've sealed the doors, but I want to be on the safe side..." Paul and Aaron glance towards each other. "Oh shit...lizard man is going to be PISSED," Aaron whispers. PK simply nods in reply. "Okay...I'll head for the gun turrets..." "I'll help Liz at the bridge..." Paul replies, before the two run off in opposite directions. - - - RRR-RIP!!The Talera lurches back, tearing away from its moorings and turning towards the main hangar exit. "Okay..." Liz whispers to herself, "Time to go..." OOC: Yes. That's right. I JACKED THE TALERA. AGAIN. I so rock...

Flying through the oncoming fire, Aegis dodged the attacks with the speed and grace of a bird. Approaching one of the mobile suits, the orbital frame quickly grabbed the offending mech with its right arm, and held it by the head.
"Right back at ya!" Aegis growled, willing the orbital frame to toss it at one of the other incoming mobile suits, the force knocking them to the ground and destroying them both imediately. As he continued his flight, he noticed movement at the docks as the Talera tore through the clamps, and began its flight.
"I wonder..." Aegis thought to himself.
