Despite the historical inaccuracy, Triyun still is more or less right about the modern situation. Extremists twisting facts and gaining power over the masses as a result.

There was rather large gap between the fall of Rome and Christianity losing control in the East. And the western Empire wasn't even responsible for defending the eastern lands, that was Constantinoples job. Before you correct someone's history make sure you know what your talking about. And Islam didn't just "appear " in Spain, it was conquered by the Moors, and there was a rather large battle in the North if you recall, Charlemagne stopped the push into France. Also Islam never had a major hold in Italy, Justinian again retook parts of Italy around that time but he was Christian. (Quick Edit: there were some brief bases, but not substantial to have a serious hold) You are aware of the difference between Eastern Empire and the Islamic Powers. Finally Asia Minor (not yet Turkey was in the Eastern Empires hands still in 1000 c.e. Seriously get it right, the Byzantines however were considerably advanced and your confused there. The turks came to power after the end of the crusades in the Muslim world.
